Kellogg and The Allstate Foundation launch free Nonprofit Board Essentials course
The Kellogg School Center for Nonprofit Management, in partnership with The Allstate Foundation Nonprofit Leadership Center, has launched Nonprofit Board Essentials, an innovative, free online offering covering essential topics every nonprofit board member should know.
Nonprofit Board Essentials is designed for nonprofit board members and executive directors to deepen their understanding of nonprofit governance and leadership with free, on-demand videos and resources. Recognizing that nonprofit board service is often balanced with other commitments, the content is designed to meet current and aspiring board members where they are to provide a seamless, impactful experience:
- Flexible, on-demand learning: With over 40 short videos, 4-8 minutes each, leaders can choose the content that fits their interests and schedule, making it easy to integrate learning into a busy day.
- Expert-led content: The program’s curriculum is developed by seasoned Kellogg School of Management faculty in partnership with nonprofit experts. Its content delivers valuable guidance in areas such as finance, fundraising, and board structure.
- Accessible for all: Free to the nonprofit community, these videos support current and aspiring board members and executive directors across organizations of any size or mission.
“Nonprofit boards are key drivers in their organization’s mission and impact, which is why effective and impactful governance skills are of utmost importance,” said Liz Livingston Howard, executive director of Kellogg’s Center for Nonprofit Management. “Thanks to our partnership with The Allstate Foundation, these resources are available for all nonprofit board leaders to engage with on their own schedules and use to drive meaningful change.”
Kellogg’s Center for Nonprofit Management has been at the forefront of nonprofit business education for more than 25 years. The Center is dedicated to supporting nonprofit executives through purpose-built initiatives that address the unique challenges faced by the sector. This new resource builds on the Center’s existing successful offerings, including multi-day leadership development programs and Nonprofit Management Essentials, all of which serve thousands of nonprofit executives each year.
Nonprofit Board Essentials is fully funded by The Allstate Foundation Nonprofit Leadership Center, which partners with leading experts like Northwestern University Kellogg School of Management’s Center to offer professional development to social innovators.
“Through The Allstate Foundation Nonprofit Leadership Center, we’re continually looking for ways to support our partners and the nonprofit sector overall. We saw a need for quick, informative and free resources for nonprofit board members, and with our partners at Kellogg School Center for Nonprofit Management, we knew we could do something about it,” said Kate Nack, Vice President of The Allstate Foundation and Social Impact. “Whether you’re a current nonprofit board member looking to level up your skills or just curious about joining a nonprofit board, Nonprofit Board Essentials will be a valuable resource for you.”
The Allstate Foundation Nonprofit Leadership Center provides free leadership development to nonprofit leaders and staff, helping nonprofit professionals enhance their skills without financial barriers. Since its creation in 2014, The Allstate Foundation Nonprofit Leadership Center has been committed to empowering nonprofit leaders, and this partnership with the Kellogg School Center for Nonprofit Management continues to build on that legacy by providing high-quality, accessible professional development.
